Walking Sticks for Veterans: an Inspiring Summer Project

Oliver and Brooks Ricci did an amazing thing this summer while staying with their grandmother. Oliver is 16 years old and his brother Brooks is 13. Their grandfather served in Vietnam and was a Major in the US Army.  Oliver made his grandfather a walking stick last summer.  His grandfather enjoyed it so much that Oliver decided to make more this year and give them to Veterans in honor of his grandfather, who died this past year after living in Falmouth for 30 years. The walking sticks are local locust wood. The bark was removed and the sticks were chiseled and sanded. Tung oil and stain were then applied with more buffing after that. On Monday, November 11th, to honor their grandfather and all Veterans who served, their beautiful works of art were raffled off to five lucky Veterans. Thank you Oliver and Brooks for your time, effort, and kindness and for allowing FCVC to play a small part in finding good homes for your Veteran walking sticks!
